A Rock concert was held Friday, January 25 in the Ashland High School Auditorium to benefit the Ashland Emergency Fund (AEF). Organized and run by Kyle Smith, a student at Ashland High School, as his Senior Project. What began as another opportunity to jam and raise some money for a good cause, resulted in $1,500 being donated to the AEF to benefit Ashland citizens in need.
Three bands participated. They are Azra, The Nats, and The Indian Brook Band with which Kyle is lead vocalist and plays the guitar. The music played by the bands was modern rock and ran the gamut from Bob Marley, to Def Leppard. At one point during the concert, the lead guitarist for Azra was playing his guitar with a violin bow! The level of talent demonstrated during the concert was acknowledged through ovation after ovation from the large crowd of more than 400 attendees – both students and adults.
Equally important perhaps, these talented young people raised a total of $1,500 for the AEF. “This is the largest, single, indoor event ever held to benefit the AEF and is far and away the largest deposit ever received from such an event”, said John Ellsworth, Chairman of the AEF. “Only the Walk-A-Thon has raised more money and you have to keep in mind that this concert was organized and run by a student as part of his curriculum of study. Amazing is the only word I can use to describe the results. Kyle is to be congratulated for first, his vision and then second, for his execution of the concert.”
As soon as it is edited, the concert will be aired on Ashland Cable.
