Since 1987 the AEF has been Ashland’s behind-the-scenes, private place to which those in need have been able to turn for help.

1st Annual Walk-A-Thon

October 14, 2007

(Walkathon update October 24, 2007)

The 1st Annual Walk-A-Thon held to benefit the Ashland Emergency Fund (AEF) was a huge success on Sunday, October 14! An estimated 125+ walkers raised over $12,000 for the AEF. Gathering began at 8:00 AM at the Pavilion in Stone Spark. Walkers set off on the designated 5-mile course that took them along sidewalks through downtown Ashland along Main and Prospect Streets, around the Warren School on Fruit St. and Eliot St., and back to Stone Park. An alternative 2.5-mile route that stayed within downtown enabled people unable to handle the longer distance to participate in the event.

The original goal set by organizers was to raise $5,000. Early accounting indicates that over $12,000 has been raised, doubling the expectations of the organizers. A fabulous result! Monies are still coming in and the final amount is sure to grow. Yet to be counted is the generous $1000 pledge that the Town of Ashland has made if at least $5000 was earned by the walk.

Planning for the 2008 Walk-A-Thon has already started. Anyone wishing to become involved in next year’s event should contact Nora Guidi or Margot Ellsworth at 508-231-4566.
