Rediscover Ashland Day 2005

Matcat Creations Ran the Chili Cook-off and Proceeds were Donated to The AEF.

Matcat Creations ran the Chili Cook-off this year at Rediscover Ashland Day. Although the event suffered because of the heavy rains and strong winds, Robert Toyota, owner of Matcat Creations, garnered $174 in proceeds for his efforts and turned that over to the AEF.

The chili cook-off, in addition to being a fund raiser, was also a competition to crown the King of Chili. The “King of Ashland Chili for 2006” honor went decisively to H&D General Store for their very flavorful blend of herbs and spices.

Many thanks to you, Robert, from the AEF for your efforts. Let’s all hope for no rain next year.

The June 10 kickoff for Rediscover Ashland 2006 was a little rain-soaked -- but the chili was hot, and so are plans for more excitement during this all-summer event.

The 3rd annual chili cook-off, hosted at the American Legion and sponsored by MatKat Creations, Inc., was one of the highlights of this year's opening day. About 60 people voted for their favorite chili, sampling variations served up by Catch 22, H&D General Store, Stone's Public House, Sunnyside Café, and TJ's Spirits. With 55 percent of the vote, H&D General Store was the clear victor, and will proudly display a plaque presented to them by the sponsor. Proceeds totaling $174 were donated to the Ashland Emergency Fund.

The Ashland Day Committee will also benefit directly from Rediscover Ashland 2006. This week a check for $1,000 is being presented to A-Day planners by the Rediscover Ashland Committee on behalf of the Ashland Business Association. Please be sure to support Ashland Day on September 16, as well as the nine free summer concerts, happening every Tuesday evening (except July 4), from June 27 through the end of August.
