Buying bread or splurging on SpaghettiOs at the supermarket can add up to stocked shelves at the Ashland Food Pantry. Thanks to a program offered by Shaw's Supermarkets, the pantry has raised about $1,500 since November by collecting grocery receipts. It all adds up for Susan William, who oversees the food pantry as Ashland's Youth and Family Services director. more >>>

A Rock concert was held Friday, January 25 in the Ashland High School Auditorium to benefit the Ashland Emergency Fund (AEF). Organized and run by Kyle Smith, a student at Ashland High School. Kyle's venture resulted in $1,500 being donated to the AEF and multiple ovations for the performers by the more than 400 attendees. more >>>

Volunteer to Help with Pantry Donations Sought

The Ashland Food Pantry is looking for a volunteer to help collecting food donations at the town's Post Office at 205 Main St. Volunteers must be able to pick up donations twice a week and deliver them to the community center at 162 West Union St. Anybody who is interested should contact Susan William at 508-881-0140 ext. 18.

Signs of the times

Ashland residents can purchase a piece of their town - 200 old street signs - for $20 each until Oct. 31, with the money going to the Ashland Emergency Fund. A list of the available signs is on the town's website, ashlandmass.com, under the News and Announcements link. Red Sox Raffle for the AEF

The Middle School held a Red Sox ticket raffle to benefit the AEF. Congratulations to the two winners. Both will be attending a Red Sox game in 2008. The final amount raised for the Ashland Emergency Fund was $1,398.53. Thank you Ashland Middle School!!

The Holliston Pantry Shelf and the Ashland Emergency Fund/Food Pantry each received $1,000 as two of 18 local food pantries recently funded by Middlesex Savings Bank to fight hunger in the MetroWest region. Summer is historically the most difficult time of the year for hunger relief organizations and $17,500 was distributed by the bank this season to help ease the food pantries' seasonal food shortages. more>>

The AEF balances have stabilized. But, to achieve that balancing act, we have had to reduce the amount of money given to folks in need and to more stringently review all cases. The ongoing issue is that donations are coming from the same "regular donors". The AEF must expand its fundraising base and new programs need to be implemented to increase donations and numbers of donors. more>>
